If you seek an efficient heating and cooling system for your Berryville, Virginia, home or business, discover why a ductless mini-split system might be an option. A ductless mini-split system can usually be installed in less than a day and keeps you comfortable while saving money on your energy bills.

What Is a Ductless Mini-Split System?

A ductless system doesn’t use ductwork to heat or cool your home. This system is called “split,” because it includes an outdoor compressor unit and an indoor air-handling unit to heat or cool a room.

How Does a Ductless Mini-Split System Work?

A mini-split system works by transferring heat from one area to another. The components of a mini-split system include fans, refrigerant-filled coils, a compressor, and a reversing valve.

To heat your home, a fan in the outdoor unit circulates air over the coils. In turn, the refrigerant in the coils absorbs the outdoor heat and turns into vapor.

Once in vapor form, the compressor moves the hot vapor into the coils of the indoor unit where a fan blows the heat into your home or business. The refrigerant then circulates back outside to absorb more heat and repeat the cycle.

To cool your home, the reversing valve switches the process so that the refrigerant absorbs heat from inside and transfers the heat outside.

Why Is a Ductless Mini-Split System Efficient?

Even well-insulated, sealed duct systems lose heat. Without ducts, a ductless mini-split system won’t have the heat loss associated with a traditional furnace.

Thanks to its design, a ductless mini-split system uses a minimum amount of energy needed to meet your heating or cooling needs. A high-efficiency ductless mini-split system can be one of the most cost-efficient ways to heat or cool your home or business.
